2.1.6.  CHAIN OF VALUE (CHANNELS OF COMMERCIALIZATION)

1 PROCESSORS Are small farmers and peasants of the Ecuadorian coast, that get a COMPLEMENTARY INCOME by the sale of the Straw Toquilla from $20 to 40 monthly.  They sell at $0,10 ó $0,20 the straw needed for a  hat. 

2 INTERMEDIARIES OF STRAW TOQUILLA they Travel by the productive zone, and then buy and compile Processed Straw Toquilla, then they carry it to the south of the country, the province of Azuay. Their income is $ 0,30 for the straw needed by each hat. 

3 WEAVERS Located in the southern part of the Country Azuay and Manabí.  They Weave an average of 5 hats of medium quality per week.  They buy straw for 1 hat at 0,30 or $0,40 then sell at  a price of $3,5 to $6,5 each woven unfinished hat of medium quality. 

4 COMMISSION AGENTS Work in Association with the exporters.  They buy from the wholesale trade and compile hats in the productive zones.  Purchase price:  $ 2 to 3 by Hat.  Sale price:  $ 5 to 8 by Hat.. 

DESTINY OF THE PRODUCTION (DEMAND OF THE LOCAL MARKET VS.  EXPORTS)

The demand of the local market of Toquilla Straw hats and Helmets or bells is a lot smaller compared to the demand from abroad.  Artisans and exporters affirm that its sales are a lot bigger overseas than in the local market. The total of the Toquilla Straw hats and helmets demand is a 10% in local market and the remaining 90% is the demand in the worldwide market. 

2.1.8.  COSTS OF PRODUCTION subsequently the cost of the top sold by the intermediaries causes disadvantge for the weavers, since it is the intermediary who obtains a larger profit.  Each top is sold, by the intermediaries at :  (This value can change) $0,20 and $0,30.
