As the weave becomes finer there will be more weaves visible per square inch, consequently the hat will be of finer quality, weaving time will increase as well as the final cost!
Notice the difference bellow!
......
The finer the weave the finer the hat!
Panama hats may be woven with two different techniques:
BRISA TECHNIQUE
LLANO TECHNIQUE
Both tecniques are clasified in grades depending on the fineness of the weave, as explained in the examples above, most hats are woven with "brisa" technique, however the finest hats such as montecristi are woven with " Llano" technique.
There are different cities in Ecuador where panama hats are woven such as:
Montecristi
Jipijapa
Cañar
Cuenca
Azogues
Sigsig
Montecristi and Jipijapa are located on the coast of Ecuador in the Province of Manabi. It is here where our finest hats are woven. We must state that fine hats can be woven in any other city, however there is a slight difference which makes montecristi hats the finest in the world.
Cañar, Cuenca, Azogues, Sigsigs are towns and cities located in the highlands of Ecuador in the ranges of the Andes. These cities are the centres of major hat production and export in Ecuador. Our factory and main offices are located in Cuenca-Ecuador, the third largest and most important city of the country.
We invite you take a look at our list of prices, which is clasified by grades of fineness as well as the most approximate count of weaves per lineal inch. Be adviced that hats woven with Brisa Technique are woven by our weavers in the highlands while hats woven with Llano Technique are only woven by our weavers in Montecristi. This will assure you are getting the best quality hats in Ecuador and the World.

BRIM STYLES
Most brims have an average size of 8 cm. "1 inch = 2.54 cm". Depending on the requirements of our importers hats may have a brim size of 4 ,5, 6, 7 cm.
As it is not always possible to have a hat with an exact brim size of 4 or 5 cm, it is neccessary to cut fold and sew the brim in order to have the required brim size.
Our clients may select hats with " woven closed brims" or " cut and sewn brims"
If woven closed brims are selected, we cannot guarantee an exact brim size as hats will vary in at least 1 cm. This means that, if you require hats with 6 cm brims, we will select hats that have been woven with the exact size you require, however some will be one centimeter wider and others 1 cm narrower.
Remember that panama hats are hand woven by hundreds of different people, it is nearly impossible to control the size each weaver weaves the hat, that is why the standard size has been set to 8 cm, 12 cm, 16 cm etc by all weavers.
If you require a hat with standard brims of 8cm or 12 cm you will get hats with 1 cm brim size variations.
In case your business cannot accept this slight variations, we will need to cut the brims the exact size required when we are unable to get enough hats with the size selected.
Take a look at the differences to understand this issue.
